Sutton.\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight )\">He says of the first year of church planting,\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>&#8220;It\u00a0was awful! It just it just felt really hard work for very little fruit. Using renovation as an illustration, the digging of the foundations is just messy and grimy and sweaty. It was tough, and right now we&#8217;re in a sweet spot and it&#8217;s going well, but it&#8217;s a reminder to me that God works in seasons. We&#8217;re enjoying springtime right now, but it&#8217;s not always been that way and I&#8217;ve had to settle in my own spirit that ultimately all the growth is down to God.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p><p>He BCX0\">haven&#8217;t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW185846140 BCX0\">,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW185846140 BCX0\"> and we still love them equally<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW185846140 BCX0\">. Actually change is more about creating good habits and finding a model that can help people cultivate good habits. That requires some good teaching initially, but also a context where you can talk about it.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Where I have seen most fruit in terms of discipleship is in a regular rhythm, say weekly, with the same group of people. You want to take some really simple principles and ask, how is this working out in your own life? It wasn&#8217;t actually the content that changed me, it was being in a community where suddenly I was watching other people say, \u201cI&#8217;m starting to invite my friends to church\u201d and \u201cI&#8217;m taking my friends to Alpha\u201d and I&#8217;m like, oh goodness I need to sort myself out here!<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Community was a provocation to me to do the simple bits of what it means to follow Jesus.<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> There&#8217;s an element that will evolve\u00a0because culture is always changing \u2013 for example, we have to help disciple people in how to use social media right now, and that wasn&#8217;t even a thing 20 years ago.\u00a0But\u00a0the principles are always building friendships, time, and the principles of Jesus. He finished Alpha and was like, \u201cyeah it&#8217;s not really for me\u201d. We just stayed friends, and he came to faith about two weeks ago which is just great.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Right now where we&#8217;re living in the UK, loads of people are moving here from Hong Kong. We see that as an opportunity to both express hospitality and welcome people, and also an opportunity for the kingdom of Jesus. We&#8217;re just being really hospitable, opening homes, welcoming people, and we&#8217;ve seen people come along to church. There&#8217;s one family who started coming who said, \u201cwe don&#8217;t believe this, but we want to find out about Jesus, can we come?\u201d.
