Together is FamilyLife\u2019s marriage discipleship resource. We think it\u2019s brilliant and we love hearing about Together groups being run by churches, friends and people completely unrelated to us! Why do we get excited by this?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>

Let me introduce you to Roy and Anu.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4><\/blockquote>

Roy and Anu have been married for 17 years and live in Mumbai, India<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>They are friends of <\/span>FamilyLife<\/span> team members Biju and Sissy in Liverpool. Biju was instrumental in Roy coming to faith some thirty years earlier. Biju <\/span>didn\u2019t<\/span> see why a global pandemic should prevent couples from <\/span>benefiting<\/span> from <\/span>Together<\/span> so he set up a group over Zoom which meant the usually prohibitive <\/span>7500 miles<\/span> between them was no longer a problem! Along with three other (UK) couples Biju and Sissy\u2019s Together group was complete.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

How does Together work?<\/h2>

There are nine sessions covering a whole range of relationship topics; from communication, emotional intimacy and God\u2019s purpose for marriage to living with your differences and handling feelings constructively. Each session is based on biblical principles, and explores scenarios, questions and insights into the topic of the session.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

But here is what is unique, and I think the best thing about Together: All the deep relationship stuff is done, not in the group, but in your scheduled \u2018Couple Time\u2019 outside of the group, where you can be really honest with each other in private!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Marriage in India<\/h2>

For Roy and Anu, it was during these \u2018Couples Times; that they felt the biggest impact.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThe \u2018Couple Time\u2019 was what made this resource so unique for us. We could talk about issues that we would have never spoken about otherwise. It has helped us to be more transparent with each other. We have seen our marriage grow to the next level. <\/span><\/i>The \u2018Couple Time\u2019 was set up in such a way that we could speak to each other about positive things and also talk about things that we had never spoken about before.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In particular, Roy and Anu talk about how there were issues and wounds from the past which they had buried. They said,<\/span> \u201cDiscussing those things with the right attitude really helped us to come closer together and allowed wounds to heal.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Together is also very practical\u00a0<\/h2>

Each session guides you through things to discuss later in your <\/span>\u2018C<\/span>ouple <\/span>T<\/span>ime<\/span>\u2019 with<\/span> practical steps to take and changes to make. Roy gives the example of how surprised he was to discover that one of the best ways he could communicate his love for Anu was to clean the kitchen! <\/span>A small change<\/span> with <\/span>a big impact<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

So what next for Roy and Anu? So convinced by the effectiveness of Together, they wanted to start a Together group \u2018<\/span>immediately<\/span><\/i>\u2019 with some of the Christian leaders they work with across India. They are currently facilitating a group online with couples representing five states across India,<\/span> \u201c<\/span><\/i>We are also working on getting the Together group material translated into Hindi. We have many languages and Hindi is the biggest. We are asking all of our current Together group to train a batch of pastors in their community so that we will have a ripple effect across the different cities in India.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Now that\u2019s an exciting vision!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

That is the beauty of Together; it doesn\u2019t need to be run by experts but is easily reproducible and transferable. FamilyLife has lots of helpful resources for you to start your own Together group, whether in person or online.
